#9 Mammoths open season with 5-1 win at Yeshiva

Box Score TEANECK, N.J. -- The #9th-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team scored five unanswered goals Tuesday night as it opened the season with a 5-1 victory over Yeshiva University in a game played at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Senior Shawn Rapal had a goal and assist in the win while first-year Mohammed Nuhu had two helpers in his collegiate debut. 

The Mammoths (1-0) next play Saturday at conference rival Middlebury. Game time is 1:30 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

*  The host Maccabees got on the scoreboard first, tallyling a goal about 20 minutes into the first half. 

* Amherst tied it at 1 nearly 10 minutes later when Rapal scored on an Ignacio Cubeddu assist. 

* Captain Ada Okorogheye gave the Mammoths a lead they would relinquish 10 minute later.Nuhu assisted on the game-winner.

* It stayed 2-1 Amherst until the 68th minute,when Nuhu set up a goal by junior Fynn Hayton-Ruffner for a two-goal advantage.

* Ryan Gomez and Daniel Arizmendi scored late goals to account for the final score. Rapal and Andrew Tremante assisted on those goals.
