AMHERST, Mass. – Sophomore guard Annie McCarthy and junior guard Kori Barach each tallied double-doubles as the Amherst College women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 64-57 win over Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday at LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Mammoths improved to 4-0 on the season and dropped the Falcons to 4-3.

The Mammoths return to action on Monday (Nov. 27), hosting New Jersey City at 6 p.m.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* A tightly contested first quarter saw both sides take a lead but never by more than a basket. The Mammoths went up, 5-3, on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Laura Mendell before the Falcons answered with a three from senior guard Amanda Zdru to tie the score.

* A three-pointer from McCarthy in the final seconds of the first quarter gave the Mammoths a 16-15 lead.

* A spurt of seven unanswered points from the Mammoths early in the second gave Amherst a 23-17 lead when senior guard Reeya Patel drained a three.

* The Falcons came back within one but back-to-back baskets from Barach and junior forward Alix Stuart kept Amherst in the lead.

* An 11-0 run later in the second quarter pushed the Amherst lead into double digits for the first time, beginning with three straight threes from Barach, Patel and Barach again.

* The Mammoths held the lead throughout the third and reached their largest lead of the game early in the fourth, when Barach's fourth three-pointer of the game put Amherst up, 60-48.

* The Falcons chipped away in the closing stretch of the fourth quarter, going on a 9-0 run to cut the Amherst lead to four when senior guard Caitlyn Scott hit a three with 1:45 to play.

* Scott's bucket proved to be the last field goal of the game as Patel hit three of four free throws in the final minutes and kept the Falcons off the board to secure the victory.
