Mammoth rally falls short at Trinity, 51-45

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Despite 15 points from Reeya Patel and 14 from Kori Barach Saturday, the Amherst College women's basketball team saw its 18-game win streak against Trinity come to an end in a 51-45 loss at Oosting Gymnasium.

The Mammoths never led in the game but rallied from a double-digit deficit to cut the Bantam lead to just one in the fourth quarter before ultimately dropping the contest. * Barach opened the second quarter by knocking down one of her two three-pointers in the game to cut the Amherst deficit to three at 12-9, but Trinity responded with an 8-2 to take a 20-11 with 3:44 remaining in the half on an Emma Wax three-pointer.

* Trinity led by double digits, 28-17, four minutes into the third quarter, but Amherst rallied and closed the gap to 37-33 at the final break on a layup as time expired by Patel.  Alix Stuart scored for the Mammoths early in the fourth quarter to make it a two-point game, but Trinity sophomore guard Indi DelRocci answered with a three-pointer from the right corner moments later.

* Stuart cut the Amherst deficit to one point at 42-41 on a drive with 4:54 on the clock, but Trinity again responded as Wax made a jumper and classmate Tori Varsamis made a steal and scored on a layup to increase the Bantam advantage back up to five.  The teams traded baskets and then the Trinity defense held Amherst to just four missed three-pointers until the final second.
