MEDFORD Mass. -- The Amherst College softball team produced 6 runs on 11 hits Friday as the Mammoths held off Bowdoin in the NESCAC Tournament quarterfinals by a 6-4 score in a game played at Tufts University.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
* Bowdoin scored first in the second to take a 1-0 lead, but the Mammoths would counter with two in the second, one on the third and two in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.
* In the Amherst third,
Sadie Pool reached on a fielder's choice erasing
Jess Butler, who led off the frame with a single, and took second on a passed ball. With two outs,
America Rangel dropped a perfect bunt down the third-base line and beat the throw, taking second on an error which allowed Pool to score.
Devynn Wilderman followed with a single back up the middle that scored Rangel and gave Amherst a 2-1 lead.
* In the Mamoths' third,
Autumn Lee and
Dani Torres Werra stroked back-to-back single that put Mammoths on the corners with one out. After Torres Werra stole second Butler lofted a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-1 lead.
* In the Amherst fourth,
Randi Finkelstein led off with a line drive down the right-field line. Bowdoin's right fielder made a diving attempt to snare the ball, but couldn't reach it and she slid hard into the fence, momentarily dazing her as Finkelstein ran around the bases, just sliding into home before the throw for an inside-the-park home run, her team-leading fourth homer of the season.
* Bowdoin scored three times in the sixth to cut its deficit to 5-4, but Torres Werra got a grounder to Lee at shortstop and Lee threw the atter out at first to preserve the lead. Amherst added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixrh and Torres Werra pitched a clean top of the seventh to close out her 10th win of the season.
* Wilderman and Butler were 2 for 3 with an RBI for Amherst. Rangel was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
