Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Undefeated #1 Middlebury stays perfect with 15-7 win at #19 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – Panthers junior attack Jane Earley scored five goals to lead Middlebury College to a 15-7 win over the Amherst College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in NESCAC action on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium. The Mammoths honored their eight seniors and retiring head coach Chris Paradis at their final regular-season home game.

The top-ranked Panthers (14-0, 9-0 NESCAC) remained undefeated this season with their 38th straight win, while the Mammoths (9-5, 4-5 NESCAC), ranked 19th in the nation in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Poll, saw their three-game winning streak snapped.

The Mammoths are back in action on Wednesday (April 27) at 6:30 p.m., visiting 16th-ranked Trinity to wrap up the regular season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* The Panthers sprinted to a 4-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game before senior captain Becky Kendall broke through for the Mammoths.

* The Panthers added three more in the first half before junior Fiona Jones and first-year Lauren Friedman scored for the Mammoths to close the second quarter and cut the Middlebury lead to 7-3 at the half.

* The Panthers scored three more in a 65-second span to open the second half before Kendall and senior attack Marina Bevacqua scored back-to-back goals.

* The Panthers answered each Amherst tally and fourth-quarter goals from junior midfielder Sydney Larsen and Bevacqua were not enough to pull the Mammoths level.

BY THE NUMBERS:

* The Panthers held a 34-18 advantage in shots and a 24-12 lead in shots on goal as Middlebury first-year goalie Gina Driscoll made five saves to earn the win.

* The Panthers held a 22-12 advantage in ground balls and a 16-10 edge in draw controls as Earley controlled nine draws.
