Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Mammoths rally past Trinity, 2-1

AMHERST, Mass. --  Two goal in the final seven minutes of the game rallied the Amherst College women's hockey team.to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Trinity College at Orr Rink Wednesday night.

The comeback allowed the Mammoth to split their mid-week series with their conference rival while improving their overall record to 10-8-1 and their conference record to 7-6-1 while Trinity fell to 7-10-1 overall and 3-8-0 in NESCAC play. Amherst has five days off before taking on the University of New England Tuesday, Feb. 15th, at 7 p.m. back at Orr Rink. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

* Amherst held a 23-12 edge in shots after two periods but trailed 1-0 thanks in part to a goal from Trinity's Jenny Guider and a sparkling first 40 minutes from Bantam goalie Hannah Leclair. 

* In the second period alone, the Mammoths had 16 shots and three power plays. Rylee Glennon had a breakaway stopped by a beautiful Leclair glove save. Anna Baxter made a great move to get past a defender and in alone on Leclair, but was denied as well. Angelina Wiater used her to speed to skate pas a Bantam from the left side and glide in on Leclair, but was denied on the short side. 

* Amherst went 0 for 6 on the power-play through two-and-a-half periods, but on their final opportunity, they cashed in. Glennon received a pass from the left corner and slid a pass over to Avery Flynn in the high slot. Flynn wound up a wrister shot and fired. Wiater was stationed in front of the goal and redirected the puck past LeClair to tie the game with 6:39 remaining. 

* Exactly three minutes later, with 3:39 remaining, Amherst's Sydney Raaths won the puck in the right corner and tried to backhand a pass to the point. The pass caromed off a Trinity defender and into the top of the face-off circle, where senior Stephanie Nomicos skated onto it and one-timed a shot past  Leclair for the go-ahead goal.



BY THE NUMBERS:

*  Amherst completed the game with a 35-19 advantage in shots. Senior Caitlin Walker made 18 saves for the Mammoths. Leclair finished with 33 for Trinity. 

*  Amherst won 34 of 58 face-offs. Wiater won 19 of the 27 draws she took on the night.
