NEW LONDON, Conn. - Milton Rico '15 scored the only goal of the day in the fourth minute of action to lead the 13th-ranked Amherst College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Connecticut College Wednesday.

With the win, the Jeffs improved to 3-0-1 overall while extending their conference unbeaten streak to 23 straight games. They are now 2-0-1 in the NESCAC. Following the loss, the Camels fell to 2-2 on the year and 0-2 in league play.

Bubba Van Wie '15 assisted on the score with a long throw in that led Rico into a one-on-one situation in the box.

Thomas Bull '16 recorded six saves in the shutout for the Jeffs. Austin DaCunha made nine stops in the setback for the Camels.

The visitors nearly extended their lead with 28:50 remaining in the opening half. Jae Heo '15E unloaded with a blast from 10 yards out but DaCunha was able to dive to the post to make the save.

Later in the half, with 1:30 remaining, Amherst was on the doorstep once again. Christopher Martin '17 took a feed from Douglass Jamison '16 and was in alone with DaCunha, but the first-year net-minder made the stop to keep it a one-goal contest at the break.

The Camels had their opportunities in the second stanza to pull even. Executing on a set piece, Zach Punt took a pass from Kevin O'Brien and lofted a high arching shot but Bull was able to make the save.

With 3:50 to play in regulation, Matthew Bitchell fired a low shot that was saved by Bull. The Jeffs were able to clear the ball away and hold on for the victory.

Amherst held a 16-to-10 advantage on the shot chart while enjoying a 9-to-6 edge in corner kicks.
