Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Hannah Guzzi '18 netted her third goal of the season in the 69th minute of play as Amherst College downed Springfield College, 1-0 in Wednesday evening's non-conference women's soccer game at Brock-Affleck Field.
With the win, Amherst improves to 3-1-0 overall, while Springfield moves to 3-1-1 on the season with its first loss.
After a scoreless first half, Amherst broke through when Megan Kim '16 delivered a pass to Guzzi who fired it into the back of the net for her third goal of the season in the 69th minute of action.
Jeffs' goalkeeper Holly Burwick '16 made three saves en route to her third shutout victory of the season. Lucy Gillett made four saves between the pipes for Springfield in the losing effort.
The Pride had a few chances late in the game, when Krissy Cicalis got a shot off inside the box but Burwick made a point-blank save to preserve the shut out.
Springfield held a slight 11-9 advantage in shots, while the Purple & White placed five shots on frame compared to three from the Pride. Guzzi led the offensive attack for Amherst, firing three shots with two on target.
Amherst returns to NESCAC action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when it hosts archrival Williams at Hitchcock Field at 12 p.m.
