Box Score

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The ninth-ranked Amherst College women's soccer team fell to Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening in non-league action at the Mansfield Complex.

With the loss, Amherst moves to 8-2-0 on the season, while Eastern Conn. State improves to 6-5-1 overall.

In a game that saw Amherst control the run of play in both halves, the Jeffs drew first blood when Hannah Guzzi '18 netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 14th minute of action. Guzzi dribbled into the 18-yard box and fired a shot in front of three Eastern Conn. State defenders under the cross bar to set the score at 1-0.

Amherst, which boasted an 8-1 shot differential in the first half, kept its one-goal cushion until the 74th minute when the Warriors' Emily Becher received a long pass from Hailey Lehning and fired a shot inside the right post to even the game at 1-1.

Ten minutes later, Lehning scored what proved to be the game-winner when she headed in a corner kick service from Maddie Bodington to give Eastern Conn. State the upset victory.

Guzzi finished with eight shots (three on goal), while Delancey King '18 and Ashlyn Heller '17 each added a shot on target for the Purple & White.

Becher had two of the Warriors' three shots on frame as Amherst held a 14-4 overall shot advantage.

Holly Burwick '16 made one save in the losing effort, while Rachel Skelton finished with four for the hosts.

Amherst returns to NESCAC action on Saturday, Oct. 11 when it hosts Colby College at 12 p.m. at Hitchcock Field.
