Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Goalkeeper Holly Burwick '16 made 10 saves, but a goal in the 53rd minute by Connecticut College's Annie Higgins lifted the Camels to a 1-0 victory over No. 14 Amherst College in Wednesday afternoon's NESCAC contest.

With the loss, Amherst moves to 11-3-0 overall, 7-2-0 in NESCAC action, while Conn. College improves to 11-2-0 on the season, 6-2-0 in league play.

After a scoreless first half of action in which Conn. College edged Amherst in shots, 9-7, the Camels struck early in the second half when Higgins received a through ball from Michelle Medina and slotted a low shot into the left corner of the net in the 53rd minute to give Conn. College a 1-0 lead.

Amherst had its chances in the first half to find the back of the net as Meredith Manley '18 fired two of the Purple & White's five shots on goal in the frame. Jessy Hale '16, Hannah Guzzi '18 and Delancey King '18 each added a shot on net, but Camels' goalkeeper Bryanna Montalvo made all five of her stops in the opening period, keeping the game scoreless.

Burwick was stellar between the pipes, making six of her 10 saves in the first 45 minutes. She added four saves in the second stanza but Higgins, who totaled four of Conn. College's 11 shots on goal, was able to find the back of the net for the game-winner.

Rebecca Raymond and Amanda Proulx added three and two shots on frame respectively for the Camels, while the Jeffs held a slim 7-5 advantage in corners.

Amherst returns to NESCAC action on Tuesday, Oct. 28 when it hosts Trinity College in its regular season finale at 7 p.m. at Gooding Field.
