Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. – Nico Pascual-Leone '16 netted a pair of goals and assisted on another to help drive the No. 11 Amherst College men's soccer team to 3-1 victory over NESCAC rival Colby College on Saturday afternoon at Hitchcock Field.

With the win, Amherst improves to 9-0-2 on the season, 6-0-2 in league play and extends its overall NESCAC win streak (including tournament games) to 37. Since taking over the program in 2007, head coach Justin Serpone has amassed a sensational 115-15-18 record, as he has now gone 100 games over .500. The loss moves Colby to 5-5-1 overall, 1-5-0 in NESCAC play.

Amherst drew first blood when Pascual-Leone received a chip into the box with his back to goal, launched himself into the air for a bicycle kick which struck the cross bar, and landed at the feet of Jae Heo '15 who was there to tap in for a 1-0 lead.

Pascual-Leone found the nylon in the 32nd minute when he received a well-placed corner kick from Heo, and finished with his fourth goal of the season to give the Jeffs a 2-0 lead.

With just under five minutes left to play in the first half, Colby pulled one back through Dan Vogel who scored from long distance just inside the left post after taking a free kick pass from Jon Stronach to set the score at 2-1.

The Purple & White extended its cushion back to two goals early in the second half when Pascual-Leone corralled a loose ball following a deflected corner kick and fired it into the back of the net for his fifth marker of the season which set the score at 3-1.

Amherst controlled the run of play, outshooting the Mules, 19-7 in the game, including 13-2 in the second half. The Jeffs also held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Amherst net-minder Thomas Bull '16 made a pair of stops in the winning effort, while Colby's goalkeeper Peter Quayle made five saves, including two key stops on headed attempts by Pascual-Leone and Andrew Orozco '17.

The Jeffs return to non-league action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Drew at 7 p.m.
