Amherst Blanks Connecticut College, 2-0

NEW LONDON, CT - Amherst College senior midfielder Meg Murphy (Springfield, MA) scored in the 57th minute of action to lead the visiting Lord Jeffs (4-1, 3-0) to a 2-0 NESCAC victory at Connecticut College Saturday (3-3, 0-3). 

First-year Hannah Cooper (Bethesda, MD) chipped in with a second half score for the Lord Jeffs, who are the 16th ranked team in the latest NSCAA National Poll.

Murphy buried a header with 33:56 remaining in regulation. Jackie Hirsch (Wilmette, IL) assisted on the tally, sending a cross across the box for her team-leading seventh point of the season.

Cooper added an insurance goal with 20 minutes remaining for the visitors. Amherst sophomore Allie Horwitz (Woodbridge, CT) had four saves in her second shutout this season.

Connecticut College freshman Amy Lowitt finished with 19 saves in the game. Sophomore Kate Driscoll posted a team-high four shots in the setback for the hosts.
