AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men's soccer remained undefeated as they shutout visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University 2-0 this afternoon, improving to 5-0 on the season (NESCAC, 3-0). Tufts dropped to 0-4-1 on the season (NESCAC, 0-4) with the loss.
The Jeffs controlled the ball from the opening whistle and established the early lead when junior midfielder John Kneeland (Holden, MA) drilled a shot off Tufts freshman keeper Pat Tanelli's (Andover, MA) legs and put in his own rebound for the score. In the 33rd minute, Amherst extended their lead to 2-0 when sophomore forward Nick Lynch (Kingston, Jamaica) swung the ball from the left wing into the six-yard box, where it deflected off a Bates defender and past Tanelli.
In the second half, the Jeffs played held strong and cemented the 2-0 victory. Amherst keeper Jeff Grover (Framingham, MA) had two saves on the day, while Tanelli notched six.
The Jeffs are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Salve Regina at 2 p.m.
