Jeffs Fall at Wesleyan

January 21, 2005

MIDDLETOWN, CT - Despite a team-high 11 points from junior co-captain Krissy Morin (Litchfield, NH), the Amherst College women's basketball team fell to 10-4 overall and 1-1 in NESCAC play with a 64-54 loss at conference and Little Three rival Wesleyan University (13-1/2-1 NESCAC) on Friday night.

Ashley Mastrangelo and Hannah Stubbs paced the host Cardinals with 18 points apiece.

The Jeffs held an 11-10 edge early on but fell victim to an 11-0 Wesleyan run and trailed the rest of the way. Amherst cut the deficit to four points (23-19) later in the half and trailed by seven (28-21) at the break, but the Cardinals pushed the lead to 13 points after the intermission and never looked back.

Morin was the lone Amherst player in double figures, while rookie Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, IL) added eight points in defeat. The Jeffs shot just 29.8% (17-for-57) in the game, including a 2-for-13 showing from three-point range.

Wesleyan prevailed despite being outrebounded 40-32.

Amherst returns to action Saturday (tomorrow) at 1 p.m. at NESCAC foe Connecticut College.
