11th-Ranked Jeffs Play Tufts to 1-1 Double-Overtime Tie

AMHERST, MA - Playing just her first game of the season, reigning NESCAC Player of the Year Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) found the back of the net in the 68th minute as the Amherst College women's soccer team came from behind to secure a 1-1 double-overtime tie with visiting NESCAC foe Tufts University on Saturday. Amherst remained unbeaten at 2-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, while Tufts moved to 0-2-2 and 0-1-2.

After a scoreless opening half, Tufts senior Jen Baldwin (Medway, MA) gave the Jumbos a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute with her first goal of the season off a nifty feed from classmate Becky Greenstein (Newton, MA). Harmeling answered at 67:02, drilling a direct kick into the top right corner of the net from just outside the box. The score remained knotted at 1-1 through a pair of 10-minute overtime sessions, giving the Jeffs their second tie in their last three games.

Sophomore netminder Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) played all 110 minutes and logged six saves for Amherst. Senior keeper Meg McCourt (Rochester, NY) played the first half and both overtime sessions for Tufts and finished with just one save.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at non-league foe Wheaton College in a rematch of last year's NCAA New England Regional Championship game.
