AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's soccer team won its third straight game on Wednesday, blanking visiting NESCAC foe Connecticut College, 3-0. Juniors Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA) and Ian Lovett (Newton, MA) and sophomore Mike Wohl (Northampton, MA) each tallied a goal and an assist as the Jeffs remain atop the conference standings at 10-1 overall and 5-1 in NESCAC play.
Gannon netted the game-winner just 11:23 into play as Wohl took a pass midfield and flicked the ball to Lovett, who in turn fed Gannon upfield for the breakaway score. Wohl notched his NESCAC-leading 10th goal of the year at the 27:59-mark off Gannon's conference-best eighth assist of the season. Lovett knocked in the game's final score with just over 35 minutes left to play as senior co-captain Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) lofted a free kick into the box from midfield where Lovett headed it home.
Junior Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) and senior Dan Glenn (Berkeley, MA) combined in goal for Amherst's second consecutive shutout and sixth of the year. Lockwood needed just four saves, while Glenn added one as the Jeffs outshot Conn. College 27-7. Senior Jon Knights (Nashua, NH) and first-year Andy White (Edina, MN) shared time between the pipes for the Camels, grabbing nine and five saves, respectively, as Conn. College fell to 2-10 overall and remain winless in conference play at 0-7.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. at NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University.
