Jeffs Remain Undefeated in Conference Play with 2-0 Win Over Conn. College

AMHERST, MA - Senior tri-captain Leslie Curren (Arlington, MA) scored her first goal of the season just over 13 minutes into the game, and sophomore Jenny Muller (Andover, MA) added an insurance tally 13:04 after the break, as the Amherst College women's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play with a decisive 2-0 victory over visiting NESCAC rival Connecticut College (6-5/2-5 NESCAC) on Wednesday. Sophomore goalie Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) went the distance for the Jeffs (6-1-4/4-0-3 NESCAC), tallying seven saves en route to her ninth career shutout and the team's sixth shutout of the year.

Curren opened the scoring with a topspin rocket that curled just under the crossbar and just over the outstretched arms of Conn. College goalie Kate Simmons (Altamont, NY), who tallied eight saves in defeat. Muller sealed the victory with a blast into the bottom left corner of the net off a deft crossing pass from senior forward Tracy Montigny (East Granby, CT). Montigny leads the Jeffs in scoring with nine points on two goals and five assists.

Amherst's defense held Conn. College at bay for most of the afternoon, but Camel rookie Kate Ashforth (New Canaan, CT) nearly found the back of the net in the 79th minute. She was denied, however, courtesy of a diving stop by Crowell.

The Jeffs were content to play keep-away down the stretch and got valuable playing time from a host of reserves in the waning minutes, including first-year midfielders Paige Fern (Brooklyn, NY) and Amy DiPilato (Amherst, NH).

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at NESCAC rival Wesleyan University.
