AMHERST, MA - Rookie John Kneeland (Holden, MA) scored his first career goal 15:02 into the opening half and sophomore sensation Mike Wohl (Northampton, MA) added an insurance tally a little over 20 minutes later as the Amherst College men's soccer team improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play with a 2-0 win over visiting NESCAC foe Colby College on Saturday. Junior Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) and senior Dan Glenn (Berkeley, MA) combined in goal for Amherst's fifth shutout of the season.
Kneeland notched the game winner when he picked off an errant Colby clearing pass and planted a perfect shot into the top right corner of the net. Wohl then cemented the victory with his conference-leading ninth goal of the season, courtesy of a nifty feed from junior midfielder Jay Kloppenberg (Wellesley, MA).
Colby senior netminder Brian Davidson (Needham, MA) tallied four saves in the loss as the White Mules fell to 3-5-2 (1-5-1 NESCAC).
Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against visiting conference foe Connecticut College.
