AMHERST, MA - Senior Tracy Montigny (E. Granby, CT) tallied a pair of assists and scored the game-winning goal 7:19 into the second overtime to lead the Amherst College women's soccer team to a hard-fought 3-2 victory over visiting NESCAC foe Colby College on Saturday.
After sophomore Laura Williamson (Manchester, CT) gave Colby a 1-0 advantage with her team-leading 10th goal of the season 33:03 into the opening period, Montigny fed both sophomore Amy Armstrong (Avon, CT) and senior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) at 34:01 and 56:20, respectively, to give the Jeffs a tentative 2-1 edge.
Amherst's lead stood until the 78th minute, when Colby sophomore Libba Cox (Guilford, CT) knotted the score off a corner-kick feed from junior Kaitlin Herlihy (Simsbury, CT), forcing the Jeffs into their fifth overtime game of the season.
Following a scoreless first extra session, Montigny sealed the win with a picture-perfect unassisted blast into the top left corner of the net, upping Amherst's record to 5-1-4 overall and 3-0-3 in conference play.
Amherst sophomore Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) went the distance in goal, collecting five saves in just over 107 minutes. Colby senior Liz Riley (Saco, ME) tallied six saves in defeat, as the White Mules dropped to 6-4-1 (2-4-1 NESCAC).
Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against visiting NESCAC rival Connecticut College.
