Jeffs Blank Mt. Holyoke, 2-0

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's soccer team posted its fourth consecutive shutout, blanking visiting non-conference foe Mt. Holyoke College on Thursday, 2-0. Senior Tracy Montigny (E. Granby, CT) tallied the game-winning score just under four minutes into play and sophomore Lesley Pruzansky (Saratoga, CA) notched an insurance goal as the Jeffs surrendered just two shots and picked up their first home victory, improving to 4-1-4.

The Jeffs scored the game-winner just 3:41 after the kickoff as senior Adrienne Showler (Ottawa, Ontario) fed classmate Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) in the middle, who in turn flicked the ball back to Montigny for the goal. Pruzansky found the net at the 14:05-mark as she sent a ball from the right corner into the box where it deflected off a Mt. Holyoke defender. Amherst continued to pepper Mt. Holyoke junior goalie Tiffany Picard (Belmont, NH), outshooting the Lyons 23-2. Picard nabbed nine saves as Mt. Holyoke fell to 5-7.

The Jeff defense, spearheaded by juniors Kaitlin Hill (Andover, MA), Margaret Chute (Providence, RI), Allyson Heady (Stony Point, NY) and Lyn Wojcik (E. Brookfield, MA) and sophomore Liz Foley (Tolland, CT), was dominant throughout, allowing both Mt. Holyoke shots in the closing minutes. Sophomore Piper Crowell (San Rafael, CA) and junior Emily Durwood (Kansas City, KS) split time in goal for the Jeffs. Durwood collected Amherst's lone save.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m., hosting NESCAC opponent Colby College.
