Jeffs Fall at Bates, 72-46

LEWISTON, ME - Olivia Zurek recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Bates College women's basketball team to a 72-46 win over visiting Amherst in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon. Bates improved to 13-6, 4-1 NESCAC, and has won its last four games. 

Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) helped the Bobcats race out to an early lead, scoring 11 points in the first half on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor. Bates started the game with an 18-2 run and never relented, building a 46-14 halftime lead by holding the Lord Jeffs to just 2-for-25 shooting in the first half. 

Lauren DuBois '04 (Beverly, Mass.) added 15 points for the Bobcats, going 7-for-12 from the floor. Point guard Heather Taylor '05 (Nobleboro, Maine), fresh off her career-high 20-point performance last night against Trinity, scored nine points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds. The Bobcats outrebounded Amherst, 58-41. 

Kristine Morin led the Lord Jeffs with 12 points. Katie Latham grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Amherst, which fell to 9-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play with its fourth straight loss. The Lord Jeffs will face Clark on the road in a non-league contest on Thursday.
