CHICOPEE, MA - The Amherst College men's basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll, improved to a perfect 14-0 and set a new school record for consecutive wins to start a season with Tuesday night's 79-47 non-league victory at Elms College. Senior guard Adam Harper (Washington, DC) led the way with a game-high 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting.
The host Blazers battled for the first 11 minutes and clung to a 12-11 lead with 8:40 left in the first half. However, Amherst closed out the half with a 23-7 run and took a 35-18 edge into the break. The Jeffs held Elms to 29.6% (16-for-54) from the floor en route to their school record-breaking 14th consecutive victory.
Amherst senior tri-captain John Donovan (Homdel, NJ) added 13 points, as he netted 4-of-5 from behind the arc, while first-year forward Dan O'Shea (Lawrence, MA) chipped in a career-high 13 points in just 11 minutes on the floor. Elms senior Chellvonto Little (Danbury, CT) scored a team-high 13 points and junior guard Kyle Seyboth (Seekonk, MA) had nine points as the Blazers fell to 3-9 with the loss
Amherst returns to action Friday at 7 p.m. at NESCAC foe Middlebury College.
