Jeffs Clinch No. 3 Seed in NESCAC Tourney With 4-0 Win Over Trinity

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College men's soccer team clinched the No. 3 seed and a first-round home game in the NESCAC Postseason Championship Tournament with a decisive 4-0 Family Weekend victory over visiting Trinity College on Saturday. Senior Mike York (Natick, MA) scored the game-winner - the first of four Amherst goals after the break and York's fifth tally of the season - on a penalty kick 14:30 into the second half. The Jeffs open NESCAC Tournament play Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against visiting No. 6 seed Wesleyan University.

York's goal ignited a second-half barrage in which senior Tim Canon (Easthampton, MA), sophomore Adrien de Bontin (Kenilworth, IL) and senior A.J. Korytoski (Northampton, MA) each joined him in the scoring column. Sophomore Christian Alexander (Santa Fe, NM), senior Valentine Burlacu (Bucharest, Romania) and de Bontin assisted on Amherst's final three tallies.

Sophomore Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) and junior Dan Glenn (Berkeley, CA) split time in goal, combining for three saves in Amherst's seventh shutout of the year. The Jeffs entered the game ranked fourth in New England and finish the regular season at 10-3-1 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play.

Senior goalie Michael Doherty (Marshfield, MA) played 86:58 for Trinity and allowed all four Amherst goals. The Bantams (3-9-2/2-6-1 NESCAC) earned the seventh seed in the NESCAC Tournament, opening postseason play tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. at second-seeded Bowdoin College.
