13th-Ranked Jeffs Wins Little Three Title, Defeat Williams, 1-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The 13th-ranked Amherst women's soccer team secured the Little Three Championship with a narrow 1-0 win at archrival Williams College on Saturday. The Jeffs, ranked second in New England, improved to 9-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in conference play with their fifth consecutive victory.

The game went almost 74 minutes without a score, but Amherst junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) tallied her 14th goal of the year, off sophomore Sarah Coleman's (New Haven, CT) fourth assist of the season, and led the Jeffs to their ninth win of the season. The Amherst defense was flawless, as first-year goalkeeper Jeanette Crowell (San Rafael, CA) posted her third career shutout, and collected four saves. The victory moved Amherst into third place in the NESCAC standings and was the Jeffs' third consecutive shutout, their fourth in the last five games.

Williams first-year Sarah Ginsburg and junior Lindsay Starner split time in net and collected four and one saves, respectively, as the host Ephs fell to 7-4-2 (5-3 NESCAC) with the loss.

Amherst hosts NESCAC rival Trinity College Saturday at 11 a.m. in its final regular season matchup.
