WATERVILLE, ME - Junior Ashley Harmeling (N. Reading, MA) netted an unassisted goal in the 65th minute to give the Amherst College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over host Colby College on Saturday. Sophomore Sarah Coleman (New Haven, CT) added her first goal of the year as the Jeffs improve to 6-3-1 (3-2-1 NESCAC).
Coleman opened the scoring just under eight minutes into the game when senior co-captain Jenny Rossman (Newton, MA) fed her off a corner kick. Colby first-year Libba Cox evened the score off an assist from junior Christina Andaya in the 21st minute, but Harmeling secured the win with her 11th goal of the year.
First-year goalkeeper Jeanette Crowell (San Rafael, CA) had 10 saves for Amherst, and Colby junior Elizabeth Riley collected 11 saves in the loss, as the White Mules fall to 4-4-1 (1-4-1).
Amherst returns to action Thursday at 4 p.m. at non-conference foe Mt. Holyoke College.
