Jeffs Downed by Bowdoin, 3-0

BRUNSWICK, ME - After notching a pair of shutout victories over Bates and Springfield the Amherst College women's soccer team was downed at Bowdoin College, 3-0, on Saturday. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play while the Polar Bears remain undefeated and improve to 6-0-1 and 2-0.

The game remained scoreless until junior Julie Barnes pierced the scoring column 34:32 into the contest, giving Bowdoin a 1-0 advantage at the half. The Polar Bears extended the lead to 2-0 when Melissa Anderson took a cross and booted a shot into the back of the net. Shortly thereafter, Jill Falwell converted to round the scoring out at 3-0.

Senior goalkeeper Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) recorded seven saves for the Jeffs while Polar Bear goalie Anna Shapell notched five saves to earn the shutout.

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at non-league foe Wheaton College.
