Men's Soccer Blanks Keene State, 4-0

AMHERST, MA - After dropping its season opening game against NESCAC foe Tufts University on Saturday the Amherst College men's soccer team returned to Hitchcock Field and blanked visiting non-league foe Keene State College, 4-0, on Thursday.

The Jeffs controlled most of the contest, outshooting the Owls, 20-6. Junior forward Franklin Perry (Hartford, CT) pierced the scoring column 8:49 into the game, taking a feed off a corner kick from senior forward Dave Michener (Eden Prairie, MN) and heading the ball into the back of the net, giving Amherst an early 1-0 advantage. First-year midfielder Christian Alexander (Santa Fe, NM) took a nifty pass from classmate Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA) and netted his first goal of the season late in the opening half to extend the Jeffs lead to 2-0 at the break.

Amherst would tack on another pair of goals in the second stanza. Kane blasted a shot past Owl goalkeeper DJ Nordmark (South Windsor, CT) in the 49th minute of play and first-year midfielder Adrien de Bontin (Chicago, IL) booted a right-footed shot just inside the left post to round the scoring out at 4-0. Amherst first-year goalie Greg Lockwood (Vancouver, WA) was spectacular in net, finishing with four saves while robbing the Owls of a pair of potential goals. With the victory the Jeffs evened their record at 1-1 while Keene State fell to 4-3.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. against visiting NESCAC opponent Bates College.
