Jeffs Fall at St. Lawrence in NCAA Regional Final

FROM A ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY RELEASE

CANTON, NY - The Amherst men's soccer team ended its season at 13-5-1 with a 1-0 loss to host St. Lawrence University in the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship game on Wednesday. Macky Diop scored the deciding tally off a corner kick - his first goal of the season - as the Saints claimed their second straight regional championship and fourth in the last five years.

Charlie Bour started the scoring play for St. Lawrence, lofting a corner kick from the right side of the field to the far post. Shawn Watson was marked, but got over an Amherst defender, heading the ball back to the near post, where Diop deflected a shot into the open net at the 15:55 mark.

The Saints held possession for much of the game and held Amherst to just five shots on goal. Dustin Crooker needed just two saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. St. Lawrence managed 17 shots and held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Saint defense held NESCAC Rookie of the Year Joe Gannon to just one shot. Gannon managed seven shots and scored the game-winning goal in Amherst's 1-0 second-round win over SUNY Cortland.

Amherst goalkeeper Dan Glenn made 10 saves in his third consecutive start.

St. Lawrence, now 23-0-1 on Sandy MacAllaster Field and 15-1-3 overall this season, will again put their unbeaten home field record on the line this Sunday against Arcadia University, which edged NESCAC Champion Williams College 5-4 on penalty kicks after finishing scoreless through two overtime periods on Monday.
