Jeffs Steamroll Wesleyan, 4-0

FROM A WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RELEASE

MIDDLETOWN, CT - After downing Colby College earlier in the week, the Amherst College women's soccer team steamrolled NESCAC and Little Three rival Wesleyan University, 4-0, earning its third straight victory on Saturday. Sophomore midfielder Adrienne Showler (Ottawa, Ontario) paced the Jeffs with a trio of goals.

Showler struck just 6:10 into the contest, giving the Jeffs an early 1-0 lead. She then took a feed from classmate striker Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) and buried her second goal of the game to extend the advantage to 2-0. Shortly thereafter, first-year midfielder Sarah Coleman (New Haven, CT) found the back of the net, giving the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

Showler completed the hat trick when she notched her team-leading seventh goal of the year in the 73rd minute. Senior co-captain goalkeeper Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) stopped all four shots she faced to earn her fifth shutout of the season while Wesleyan sophomore netminder Kelly McFarling (Atlanta, GA) and first-year Christina Farrell (Setauket, NY) combined to record seven saves. With the victory, the Jeffs improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play while the Cardinals dropped to 2-9-1 and 0-6-1.

Amherst returns to action Thursday at 4 p.m. against visiting non-league foe Mount Holyoke College.
