AMHERST, MA - Cathy Poor (Harwich Port, MA) followed up a shot by Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) and scored halfway through the second half to give the Amherst College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Wesleyan University in Saturday's Homecoming game. The win gives Amherst the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Tournament where the Jeffs will play No. 6-seeded Tufts in the quarterfinals at Bates on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Amherst got on the board first when senior tri-captain Hallison Putnam (Lexington, KY) headed a corner kick from sophomore Jenny Rossman (Newton, MA) into the bottom left corner of the net. Wesleyan broke the 1-0 Amherst halftime lead with a goal from first-year midfielder Corinne Case (Waltham, MA) on a feed from senior tri-captain Amanda Sells (Piedmont, CA). Yet, a mere two minutes later, Amherst pressure resulted in Poor's game-winner.
Poor, who also scored both goals in last year's 2-1 overtime win which clinched the Little Three title last season, now has a team-high nine goals and 34 in her career.
