HARTFORD, CT - Junior striker Laura Raybould tallied her first career goal in the 50th minute, while junior midfielder Cathy Poor netted her eighth of the season in the 78th minute, as the Amherst College women's soccer team improved to 4-2 with a 2-0 win at NESCAC rival Trinity College on Tuesday.
After a back and forth first half that saw both teams threaten with scoring chances but neither convert, the Jeffs took over in the second half behind stellar midfield play from Poor, newcomer Jenny Rossman, sophomore Katelyn McCabe and junior Sarah O'Keefe.
After a long ball down the left sideline, Brianna Porco crossed the ball into the box from the left wing to Raybould, who tapped it just over Trinity goaltender Erin LeDell for a 1-0 lead. The visiting Jeffs continued their offensive pressure from there, as Poor took scored off a corner-kick-pass from Rossman late in the second half to ice the 2-0 victory.
Amherst goalie Brooke Diamond notched her fourth shutout of the season. LeDell tallied 11 saves for Trinity in defeat.
The Jeffs return to action this Saturday at NESCAC rival Bowdoin at Noon.
