AMHERST, Mass. – In their final home game of the 2019 regular season, the Amherst College women's volleyball team defeated visiting Coast Guard Academy 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-17) in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
Amherst returns to the win column, snapping a two-game skid, and now sits at 17-5 on the year. Coast Guard sees their five match win streak end and drops to 19-8 on the season.
Emily Kolsky '20 had a match-high 13 kills and did not make an attack-error for a .419 hitting percentage for Amherst, who hit .309 as a team. Classmate Cameron Hendricks added six kills, also without a blemish, and attacked at a .462 clip for the Mammoths.
Amanda Dake led the Bears with 12 kills while Noelle Tursky added nine kills, seven digs, three block and a team-high 16 assists in the loss. Mary Sweet hit .308 and had six kills and three blocks for the Bears.
Amherst jumped out to a 14-5 lead in the opening set and the Mammoths would only let the Bears get as close as seven on three occasions before securing a 25-15 win.
The second set was tight throughout and the Mammoths led 20-19 before Amherst scored four straight and beat the Bears 25-21. Hendricks had four of her kills in the second set, and Amherst had four blocks, including two assists apiece from Chloe Chanren '23, Alex Rone '22, and Claire Dennis '20.
Amherst, leading 11-9 in the third, would take control by scoring eight straight and closed out the match with a 25-17 win.
Jamie Dailey '21 had eight kills, while Dennis finished the night with six block assists and five kills and Rone had four block assists.
Kolsky served a pair of aces and matched her kills total with 13 digs, while Skyleur Savage '22 led all players with 20 digs.
Amherst hits the road for their final two regular season matches this weekend. First up is a Friday night test at Hamilton before a matchup with Williams on Saturday afternoon.
Coast Guard closes out the regular season at Wheaton on Saturday at 1:00.
