Mammoths Clinch Non-Conference Road Victory over Westfield State, 3-0

WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the third consecutive match and 10th on the season, Amherst women's volleyball routed their opponent in straight sets after they posted a 25-13, 25-9, 25-18 score line over Westfield State at the Woodward Center Tuesday evening.

With the win, Amherst improves to 13-1, while the Owls drop to .500 overall (9-9).

In the opening set, Amherst led by four points (15-11) before a score from both sides set up the Mammoths ringing off nine straight points to the Owls one to put the Purple & White up 1-0.

Amherst carried the momentum into the second set when they found themselves up 11-2 before a ball handling error and service error led to a couple quick points for Westfield State. However, the Mammoths went on two score 14 points while holding the Owls to just four.

In the final set, Westfield State recorded their most kills with 10 through 18 points but the Mammoths notched 15 kills to solidify the win at 25-18.

Emily Kolsky '20 had a game-high 15 kills for Amherst and finished with a .500 hitting percentage. Cameron Hendricks '20 connected on nine kills in the win.

Coordinating the Mammoths' attack were setters Charlotte Duran '20 and Jacqueline Kortekaas '23 who registered 20 and 12 assists, respectively. Duran reached a double-digit dig total as well with 12.

The Westfield offense was led by Ashley Crowley's (Billerica/ Billerica) seven kills, but 23 Owl attack errors were too much to overcome. Ally Rega connected on 21 assists along with nine digs.

Anchoring the defense end, Skyleur Savage '22 led all Mammoths with 18 digs while Amherst controlled the play at the net throughout the match, holding a 10-2 advantage in team blocks.

Amherst kicks off a conference-filled weekend on Friday, Oct. 11 when they host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m. before a quick turnaround on Saturday against Wesleyan (Conn.). Westfield State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 with a tri-match against Salve Regina (1:00 p.m.) and Rivier (3:00 p.m.), at Rivier.
