MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College volleyball team rebounded from a 3-0 loss to eventual champion Wesleyan University on Friday night to defeat non-conference foe Wheaton College and NESCAC rival Trinity College on Saturday in Wesleyan Invitational action. Senior tri-captain Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and junior Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, CA) earned All-Tournament honors for their strong performances in the two-day event.
Amherst fell to Wesleyan in opening night action, 30-21, 30-25, 30-18, but bounced back on Saturday morning with a 3-1 win over Wheaton, 27-30, 30-15, 30-14, 30-23. Sophomore Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) led the Jeffs, posting 16 kills, while Quinn added 10 kills and rookie setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) dished out 36 assists. Raddock and sophomore libero Julie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) combined for 25 digs to lead the defense.
The Jeffs returned in the afternoon to post a 3-1 victory over Trinity, 13-30, 30-20, 30-17, 30-23. Quinn notched 10 kills and two blocks to lead Amherst , while DeMais notched nine kills, two blocks and an ace, and classmate Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) added 10 kills and two blocks. Raddock and junior Laura Golden (Boca Raton, FL) racked up a combined 27 digs to pace the defense.
Host Wesleyan took home the team title, posting a 3-0 record to move to 10-5 on the season, while the Jeffs improved to 9-5, Wheaton fell to 4-10 and Trinity fell to 7-7.
Amherst returns to action Friday night, hosting Tufts University, Middlebury College and Hamilton College in a NESCAC Quad.
