Jeffs Sweep Bowdoin, Edged by Colby at NESCAC Quad

WATERVILLE, ME - The Amherst College volleyball team blanked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Friday night in a NESCAC Quad at Colby College, before falling to the host Mules on Saturday morning, 3-2. The Jeffs moved to 5-2 (1-1 NESCAC) on the season, while Colby remained undefeated at 7-0 (2-0 NESCAC) and Bowdoin fell to 4-2 (0-2 NESCAC).

The Jeffs cruised past Bowdoin, 30-16, 30-23, 30-21, led by first-year Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) , who tallied 26 assists, three blocks and two kills. Senior tri-captain Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) paced the Jeff defense with seven digs and served up three aces, while sophomore Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) notched nine kills.

Senior Ellie Simon (Falls Church, VA) led the attack for the Polar Bears, posting eight kills, while junior Julie Calareso (Coral Springs, FL) tallied 15 digs and five kills. Sophomore Margo Linton (Atherton, CA) dished out 21 assists.

Amherst continued with a hard-fought 30-22, 24-30, 23-30, 30-22, 15-3, loss to Colby on Saturday morning. Kouvaris and classmate Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) led the Jeffs with 20 kills apiece, while Heller added 34 assists and 12 digs.

Senior Megan Devlin (Branford, CT) paced the Mules with 12 kills and 26 digs.

Amherst returns to action Friday night, hosting the Amherst Classic. Game times and opponents are yet to be announced.
