AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team blanked visiting non-conference opponent Keene State College, 30-18, 30-18, 30-10, on Wednesday night, improving to 4-1 with the victory. Sophomore Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) led the way with 13 kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
Amherst dominated tempo from the start as first-year setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA)tallied two of her game-high four aces in the opening service. She finished with 33 assists and four kills, while junior Kristin Quinn (Los Angeles, CA) added 10 kills and four blocks and sophomore Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) tallied nine kills. Amherst rookie Alison Munzer (Los Angeles, CA) was sharp on the attack as well, converting eight kills in just 10 attempts and senior tri-captain Natalie Soud (Jacksonville, FL)racked up a trio of aces. Senior tri-captain Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) , junior Laura Golden (Boca Raton, FL) and sophomore Julie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) paced the Jeff defense with 10, seven and six digs, respectively.
Senior Shelly Ellis (Hampton, NH) paced Keene St. with seven kills, while classmate Adrienne Deschnow (Portland, CT) tallied 10 digs as the Owls fell to 3-2 with the loss.
Amherst returns to action Friday night in a NESCAC Quad at Colby College.
