Jeffs Fall to Smith, 3-1

AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team suffered a 26-30, 30-22, 30-19, 30-27 loss to visiting non-conference foe Smith College on Wednesday night. The Jeffs drop to 7-4 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 11-2. Junior Kristin Quinn (Pacific Palisades, CA) led Amherst, posting 15 kills, eight digs and two blocks. 

Amherst took an early lead, winning the first game, 30-26, but Smith battled back to win the next three games and clinch the victory. Joining Quinn with double figure kills were sophomores Jaclyn DeMais (Hillsdale, NJ) and Whitney Kouvaris (Jacksonville, FL) and rookie Alison Munzer (Los Angeles, CA) with 15, 12 and 13, respectively. First-year setter Sara Heller (La Canada, CA) dished out 45 assists and tallied 12 digs, while senior tri-captain Kate Raddock (Stamford, CT) and junior Laura Golden (Boca Raton, FL) led the Jeff defense with 20 and 21 digs. 

Senior setter Lauren Perry (Metairie, LA) served up 56 assists and posted 17 digs for the Pioneers, while classmate Kate Sorensen (Kelso, WA) led the attack, notching 22 kills, 18 digs and two blocks. 

Amherst returns to action Friday night at the Wesleyan Invitational.
