WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- For the second consecutive year and twice since 2014, Amherst women's tennis downed the Ephs in their opening dual match of the season on Saturday afternoon at The Torrence M. Hunt '44 Tournament Courts.
After a productive opening pair of tournaments, including three ITA Regional Semifinalists and a doubles draw win at the MIT Invitational, the Mammoths swept the Ephs for the first time since 2004 (October 9th).
Heading into singles, Ivenitsky made it 4-0 when she posted a decisive 6-0, 6-1 win at number six before Maddie Dewire '20 sealed the deal and blanked her opponent (Zoe Bennett) 6-0, 6-0 at number five.
From there, the scoring went right down the list with Smukler clinching the top spot in singles over Katherin Orgielewicz (6-1, 6-0) while Bukzin followed her with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at number two.
First-years Calista Sha '23 and Chloe Henderson '23 rounded out the scoring after claiming the third and fourth spots by 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2 margins, respectively.
Amherst begins their season at 1-0 while the Ephs drop to 0-1. The Mammoths return to the courts next weekend, October 11-13, when they travel to the New England Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) beginning on Friday afternoon.
