MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The No. 3 Middlebury handed the No. 6 Amherst women's tennis team their fourth loss on the season as the Mammoths suffered a 9-0 loss to the Panthers in their final regular season match up on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Recreation Center
The hosts grabbed all three points during doubles play. The No. 2 team of Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger posted an 8-1 victory over Anya Ivenitsky '20 and Camille Smukler '20 while the top tandem of Heather Boehm and Ann Martin Skelly doubled the lead with an 8-4 win against Jackie Bukzin '22 and Kelsey Chen '19. The No. 3 pair of Christina Puccinelli and Maddi Stow earned the team's third point via an 8-5 win over Maddie Dewire '20 and Anya Ramras '22.
Down three heading into singles action, the Mammoths weren't able to claim a set against Middlebury. Ivenitsky came close after posting four points in both sets in her match up at number four against Skylar Schossberger, but the Panther was able to prevail 6-4, 6-4. Katherine Hughes was the one who solidified the win at number two after blanking Smukler 6-0 in the opening set and following it up with a 6-4 score line in the second.
Bukzin also fell at the top of the ladder after Heather Boehm earned the 6-3, 6-0 win while Dewire was able to secure three points in both her sets against Christina Puccinelli, but fell 6-3 and 6-3.
Stow picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Camilla Trapness '19 at No. 5, while Emily Bian completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph against Ramras at the bottom of the lineup for the final 9-0 tally.
The Mammoths drop their fourth loss on the season, all coming against top-6 ranked opponents and will head to the 2019 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament next weekend, May 3rd, for their next competition. The Panthers maintain their undefeated record in conference action (8-0) and improve to 14-1 on the season.
