WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Amherst's Women's Tennis team finished their second day of the ITA New England Regional Championship, leaving two Mammoths still in the running of the singles and doubles draw heading into the final day of competition.
In the singles bracket, number nine seed Claire Evans '22 saw her run come to an end as she faced off against number one seed Victoria Yu of Wesleyan, who won in two sets 6-1, 6-1. Anya Ramras '22 took on Ashley Teng of MIT in her first match of the day where she won 7-6(5), 6-4. She then went on to face Venia Yeung of Wesleyan who took down Mammoth Camilla Trapness '19 back in the second round. Yeung went on to beat Ramras as well by a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 mark.
Jackie Bukzin '22 is the last Mammoth still standing in the singles draw as she went on to beat Elena Pellegrini of Trinity by a score of 6-3, 6-0. She then proceeded to defeat Viktoriya Tabunshchyk of MIT 6-4, 6-3. Bukzin has not given up a set in this tournament for the singles draw. She is set to take on Caroline Garrido of Tufts tomorrow in the semifinals.
In the doubles draw, Bukzin and Claire Evans '22 were the last Mammoths standing heading into today as they took down the duo of Justine Huang and Michaela Markwart of Wellesley College by a score of 8-5. Bukzin and Evans will compete against number four seed Venia Yeung and Alexis Almy of Wesleyan tomorrow in the semifinals.
