No. 16 Amherst Gets Back Into Win Column, Doubles Up No. 17 Bates, 6-3

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Dominating the bottom of the ladder in addition to earning wins in the No. 2 and 3 spots, the No. 16 Amherst College women's squash team got back in the win column as the Mammoths downed No. 17 Bates College, 6-3 Saturday at the the Heights Casino Annex.

With the win, Amherst improves to 3-2 on the season, while the Bobcats drop to 7-3 overall.

On the first court, Daksha Pathak suffered a hard-fought, five set loss to Luca Polgar, battling back from a 0-2 deficit to post 11-5, 11-8 wins and force a fifth set. In a wild one that saw the sides go point-for-point, Polgar claimed the W after finally gaining the advantage, 18-16.
Lauren Weil swept the No. 2 spot, sandwiching 11-6 wins over Erika Parker with a 12-10 win in the second set.

On the third court, Lilly Soroko also picked up another 3-0 win, powering past Maeve O'Brien, 11-8, 11-0, 11-4.

The fourth and fifth courts saw the Bobcats add points to the board, with Katie Manternach downing Caroline Conway (11-5, 11-9, 11-6) and Ella Lungstrum coming out on top against Pierson Klein, 3-2 in a battle that saw the sides trade sets (9-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8, 11-4).

At No. 6, Riddhi Sampat earned a five-set victory, taking the first, third and fifth to edge Natasha Jones.

Amherst returns to action on Monday, Jan. 20 when they welcome No. 27 Bowdoin to the Davenport Squash Courts for a 2:00PM contest.
