Women's Lacrosse Ranked Second in IWLCA Preseason Poll

AMHERST, MA - One year removed from advancing to its second straight NCAA Final Four and third in the last four years, the Amherst College women's lacrosse team garnered a No. 2 national ranking in the 2003 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Preseason Poll. The Jeffs open their season on Saturday, March 15, against fourth-ranked William Smith College in Panama City, Florida. 

Coming off a 14-3 campaign, Amherst returns three All-Americans, including senior tri-captain goaltender Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA), who has been named the 2003 Preseason Player of the Year by several national publications. Diamond finished second in the NESCAC with a 6.86 goals against average en route to IWLCA Goaltender of the Year honors last season. 

Also returning are senior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA), a First-Team IWLCA All-American in 2002, and junior midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD), a Second-Team IWLCA All-American. Junior Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) joins Martin in the midfield after earning Second-Team IWLCA All-New England honors as a sophomore. 

Amherst is one of six NESCAC schools ranked in the preseason Top-20. Two-time defending national champion Middlebury College heads the list at No. 1, followed by Amherst at No. 2, Williams College at No. 6, Colby College at No. 15 and Bates and Bowdoin Colleges at No.'s 19 and 20, respectively. 

Six of the 13 games on Amherst's regular-season schedule are against ranked opponents.
