Third-Ranked Jeffs Hammer No. 20 Tufts, 13-6

MEDFORD, MA - Visiting Amherst College kept Tufts University scoreless for the first 42 minutes and built an 11-0 lead en route to a 13-6 victory in NESCAC Women's Lacrosse action on Wednesday Afternoon at Kraft Field. The victory was the sixth straight for Amherst (11-1, 7-1 NESCAC), the third-ranked team in the nation this week. Tufts, ranked 20th, fell below .500 to 5-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference. 

The Jeffs dominated the first half, taking a 7-0 lead at the break. Junior leading scorer Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) and senior Mary Kate Allen (Springfield, MA) both scored two of their game-high three goals in the first 30 minutes. Senior tri-captain Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) was rarely tested in the Amherst goal, finishing the half with just three saves. 

Amherst ran the score to 11-0 on Martin's third goal of the game with 19:39 to play in the second half. Tufts finally broke the shutout with a goal by freshman Dena Miller (Denver, CO) at 17:42. The Jeffs maintained a double-digit lead until Tufts scored the final four goals of the game in a span of 4:30. Miller assisted on three of the goals and figured in five of the six Tufts goals on the day. 

Five Amherst players scored multiple goals. Junior Kelly Leisman (Weston, MA) doubled her season's goal total with two scores. Diamond finished with 10 saves in 50 minutes. Senior co-captain Ari Kristan (South Windsor, CT) started and played 53 minutes with eight saves for Tufts. The Jeffs have won five straight games in the series.
