AMHERST, MA - The third-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play with a 16-11 victory over visiting 17th-ranked Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon at Hitchcock Field. It was also the final regular season home game for seniors Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA), Annie Jamieson (Princeton, NJ), BriAnne Watkins (East Northport, NY), Molly O'Connor (Baltimore, MD), Erin Beaumont (Summit, NJ), Laura Schifter (Washington, DC), Mary Kate Allen (Springfield, MA) and Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA).
The Jeffs jumped out to an early 3-1 lead on goals by Beaumont, Allen and junior middie Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD). They extended the lead to 8-3 early in the second half when Beaumont sprinted downfield and bounced in her second goal of the day.
The Polar Bears rallied and cut the deficit to 10-8 when junior midfielder Amanda Burrage (Brookline, MA) won the draw control and went the distance, ripping a shot through Diamond's legs. Amherst retaliated with a seven-goal run to seal the victory.
Ouimet paced the Jeffs with three goals and three assists, while Allen and Beaumont each chipped in with a trio of strikes. Senior attacker Libby Bourke (Denver, CO), junior Hilary Abrams (Lakeville, CT) and Burrage each tallied four points to lead the Polar Bears.
