AMHERST, MA - After downing 14th-ranked Colby College yesterday, the second-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team routed league-foe Bates College, 19-9, in a game that began at Hitchcock Field and ended at UMass on Sunday. Junior midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) netted seven goals and dished out a pair of assists to lead the Jeffs to the win.

With 9:20 remaining in the opening half and the Jeffs ahead 9-2, the field was deemed unplayable and both teams traveled cross-town to complete the contest on the artificial turf at UMass. Martin tallied Amherst's next four goals to extend the advantage to 13-6. The hosts added six more strikes to seal the victory.

Jeff senior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) scored two goals and two assists, while classmate Laura Schifter (Washington, DC) added a goal and five assists. Juniors Becky Castle (Stonington, CT) and Lori Jessup (Hatboro, PA) each tallied two goals and an assist to pace the Bobcats.

Amherst senior goalie Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) combined with sophomore Olivia D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT) to turn aside 8 shots, while sophomore Liz McNamara (Plainfield, NH) finished with 12 saves in net for Bates. With the victory, the Jeffs improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bobcats drop to 6-2 and 0-2.
