AMHERST, MA - The second-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team downed 14th-ranked Colby College, 17-12, in a NESCAC matchup Saturday at Hitchcock Field. Junior midfielder Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) paced the Jeffs with six goals, while senior attacker Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) chipped in with three goals and seven assists.

Amherst jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on goals by Ouimet, Martin and senior middie Mary Kate Allen (Springfield, MA). The White Mules mounted a furious comeback and evened the score at 7-7 early in the second half when senior attacker Ally King (W. Hartford, CT) weaved through a pair of defenders and netted her third goal of the contest.

Shortly thereafter, the Jeffs regained the lead when Martin bounced a shot past senior netminder Anna Scherr (Portsmouth, NH). The hosts tickled the twine nine more times to seal the win. Jeff senior goalie Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) and Scherr each finished with 16 saves. With the victory, Amherst improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while Colby drops to 3-3 and 0-2.

The Jeffs return to action Sunday at noon against visiting league-foe Bates College.
