Second-Ranked Women's Lacrosse Upends Fourth-Ranked William Smith 12-11 in Season Opener

PANAMA CITY, FL - After having Saturday's 1 p.m. season opener pushed back to 8 p.m. due to air travel delays, the second-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team rebounded from a 7-2 halftime deficit to upend fourth-ranked William Smith College 12-11 in Panama City, Florida. Junior midfielder Jackie Sargent (Concord, MA) scored a trio of goals for Amherst, including an unassisted tally with 4:20 left in regulation that turned out to be the game winner. 

Senior Abby Ouimet (Hatfield, MA) and junior Allison Aldrich (Cornwall, VT) led the comeback with three second-half goals each. Ouimet also had a pair of assists. Senior midfielder Mary Kate Allen (Springfield, MA) tallied twice, while junior Liz Martin (Baltimore, MD) added a goal and two assists. Senior tri-captain Erin Beaumont (Summit, NJ) assisted on three scoring strikes as well. 

Preseason Division III Player of the Year Brooke Diamond (Longmeadow, MA) finished with eight saves in the win. 

The Jeffs return to action Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. against St. Lawrence University, also in Panama City.
