Toupal Named to the All-America Third Team All-America Release

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore forward Alex Toupal of the Amherst College women's ice hockey team has been named to the All-America Third Team, as announced by the organization Thursday.

The teams, which run three full on-ice groupings deep at each position (18 total honorees), are selected by's editorial staff with input from Sport Information Directors from across the country.

Her first All-American selection, the accolade marks the fifth of the post-season for Toupal who has also been named a AHCA Second Team East All-American, a All-Region East Second Team selection, to the First Team All-NESCAC, and a NEHWA All-Star following a stellar sophomore season. A native of New Brighton, Minn., Toupal led the Purple & White in all major offensive statistical categories in 2015-16, scoring 23 goals (fifth in nation), including seven game-winning and three short-handed tallies, to go along with 16 helpers for 39 total points. Establishing herself as of Division III's premier players, Toupal finished the season with a 1.44 goals per game average to rank 14th in the nation. Midway through her collegiate career, the rising junior has registered 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points on the ice for Amherst.

In 2015-16 Toupal helped propel Amherst to a 22-3-3 overall mark, and a 13-1-2 NESCAC record, and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time since 2011-12. 

Three-time defending National Champion Plattsburgh State lead the way with five All-America selections, followed by Lake Forest with four and UW-River Falls and Adrian with two apiece.
