PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The No. 6/5 Amherst College women's ice hockey team garnered an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. One of only eight programs in the country that will advance to the national postseason tournament, the Purple & White are set to travel to No. 1/1 SUNY Plattsburgh on Saturday, March 12 with the puck set to drop at Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena at 3 p.m.

Amherst punched its at-large ticket to its sixth overall NCAA Tournament, and first since the 2011-12 season, following a dramatic, 5-4 overtime loss to Middlebury College in the NESCAC Championship title game at Kenyon Arena in Middlebury, Vt. Sunday afternoon.

The Purple & White, who now stand at 22-2-3 overall, have won two national crowns (2009, 2010) and boast a 6-4 record in NCAA postseason action.

Amherst will take on SUNY Plattsburgh (26-1-0) which earned the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West title after defeating Utica College, 8-0 on March 6. The two-time defending national champion Cardinals are now making their 11th appearance in the national tournament in the last 12 years.

The winner of Saturday's matchup will advance to play the winner of Middlebury College/UMASS Boston on Friday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. at a location yet to be determined.
