Amherst Uses Huge First Period to Win at Colby, 7-1

WATERVILLE, ME – Amherst College stayed perfect in the NESCAC after taking a 7-1 victory over Colby College in women's ice hockey on Saturday at Alfond Rink. Amherst is 10-3 overall and 10-0 in the conference, while Colby falls to 6-6-3 overall and 3-4-2 in the league.

Amherst's unbeaten streak against conference opponents increased to 42 games, as the Lord Jeffs are 35-0-7 against NESCAC teams dating back to December of the 2006-07 season.
Senior tri-captain Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) had two unassisted goals, including a shorthanded tally, and added one assist for Amherst. The Lord Jeffs went up 4-1 in the opening period on goals by Harrington, sophomore Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA), sophomore Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY) and junior tri-captain Kirsten Dier (Appleton, WI).
Laura Anning had Colby's lone goal to cut the lead to 2-1 in the opening period. Zukas scored just over a minute later to put Amherst back up by two goals and Dier added a power play goal.
Harrington had the lone goal of the second period, while junior Molly Malloy (Stamford, CT) and senior Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) both scored in the third period. Junior Krystyn Elek (Summerville, SC) made 18 saves to earn the win for Amherst. The Jeffs out-shot the Mules 44-19 on the day.

The Lord Jeffs return to action Wednesday, Jan. 18, when they host New England College at 7 p.m.
